Kern Regional Center
A Supportive, Flexible Experience for Your Child.
At the Bakersfield School of Art & Music, we have extensive experience working with students of all abilities, including those with autism, ADHD, and other developmental differences. Our team is trained in adaptive teaching strategies, and we have an on-staff educational psychologist who helps guide our approach to student learning and support.
We understand that every child learns differently, and our goal is to create a space where students feel comfortable, supported, and able to grow at their own pace.
We work with many Kern Regional Center families and know that getting started can sometimes feel overwhelming. We’re here to help guide you through the process and make things as simple as possible.

A Few more notes:
Private classes are unique, and based on your schedule.
Our private classes are available in 30 or 60 minute increments and are designed for each student in collaboration with our developmental psychologist. We typically request a copy of an IEP or IPP, if available, to tailor lessons and provide the best possible experience, but it isn't required. When you register for your private lessons, let us know when you would like your class. We prioritize flexibility: students can view our full calendar online, then schedule at a time that works best from them between 10am - 8pm
Group Classes are mixed attendance, and happen at a regularly scheduled time, they may not be appropriate for all students.
While we offer specialized private lessons, group classes are not specialized and typically appropriate for those with goals related to socialization, as they have mixed attendance with the public. Students who can meet a few behavioral benchmarks are absolutely encouraged to join us for group classes. Group classes are held at a regular time each week, and students are welcome to attend as many classes as they like in any discipline, as long as they fit the age range.

Vendor Status
We are currently in the process of vendorization with Kern Regional Center.
In the meantime, we continue to work with families through approved funding pathways and FMS providers to ensure continuity of services.
Working for families with you.
We take an active role in helping families navigate the process once services are approved, but we’ll defer to their service coordinator in how to provide that support. In the Services & Success branch of our school, we focus on reducing the pressure for families and their team.
Is there anything else we can do to…
Reduce your administrative load
Meet your specific FMS and reporting requirements
Collaborate with your family and support team
